Boating Tips

Broken Bow Lake is an excellent lake for boating. There are some things everyone should know before getting on the lake.

  • There are areas in the lake that have submerged islands and shallow spots so my suggestion would be to go to Beavers Bend Marina and ask to look at their map of the lake. They have dangerous areas marked and can help you determine where the places are that require caution.
  • If you are not familiar with the lake I would suggest that you launch from the marina. Go straight east about 1/4 mile until you see a gigantic slab of rock on the south side of lake.  (you will know it when you see it) Make this rock formation your reference point for the lake. It can be seen from several spots on the lake.
  • The best spot for water sports is the south side of lake.
  • Be sure and keep the marina’s number handy. They will come and get you if you have engine trouble or get lost.
  • Keep an eye out for storms and go back to your boat ramp if things start brewing. The lake can get rough  and if you think you are too far away or don’t want to risk crossing the open water just stay where you are and wait it out.

Fishing Tips

I love to troll in the summer time. The lake is very deep in places and is perfect for trolling. I would suggest that you do not troll north of Egypt creek. The timber line starts at Egypt creek and goes north. The best artificial lure I can recommend is a deep diving Bomber, chartreuse in color with an orange bottom. Reflective silver and black deep divers also work. Early morning and late evening are great times to throw crankbaits and plastics. I personally use shaky heads with 4 inch plum finesse worms. Any of these baits can be purchased at Brutons sporting goods only a 1/4 mile from cabin.
