Equipment Rentals

Rental yakanoes ( a kayak/canoe hybrid), paddle boats, and traditional canoes are available at the River Bend area, and on the lake you can enjoy jet skiing, with rentals also available. This is great fun for both the adventurer and families alike.

Fishing Fun!

Are you an avid fisher(wo)man or want to try it for the first time? Our streams are stocked year-round for you to enjoy. There are trophy areas and catch and release for adults and kids. You can also check out Mountain Fork River for more fishing enjoyment, which is full of native fish including the smallmouth bass and perch.

Handicapped platforms are available and are a great place to fish from for all. Fishing permits are easily obtained – call 405-521-3851 for information on fishing licenses

Water Adventures

For those of you with a love of water sports, the river is perfect for canoeing and kayaking, including family friendly activities where you can take bumper boats or floats through the Mountain Fork River & Riverbend area. Don’t want to be atop the river, but in it? No problem – you can enjoy a swim through nature, or get even deeper and scuba dive through the clear waters.

Hikers Heaven

The area offers miles of hiking trails for both the weekend hiker and the dedicated hiker. Hike through creeks, mountain ridges and forests – you will be taken back in time to the days before man with nature in its full glory. Hiking trails can be as long as 16 miles (including 4 miles of bike trails) at the David Boren Trail, or can be broken down into smaller ‘bites’. Other trails include the renovated Skyline trail in Beavers Bend (7m with newly discovered three-tier waterfall) which is perfect for the experienced hiker. Family-friendly trails include Forest Heritage (1.1m); Beavers Lodge (1m); Cedar Bluff (1m) and Pine Ridge (3/4m).

Sporty Fun

Located close to Swim Beach, you can find more traditional sports such as tennis, volleyball and mini golf. A great way to enjoy some light-hearted competitive time with friends and loved ones.

Forest Festival

Visitors in June are in for a special treat – the annual Kiamichi Owa-Chito Festival of the Forest. A celebration of heritage and culture over a three day event; featuring ax throwing, double-buck sawing & crosscut contests. The festival also has an exhilarating juggling chainsaw act & log rolling display, as seen on TV as part of the All American Lumberjack Show. Whats more, the Owa-Chito Art Show feature more than 100 artists.

Ride the Train

Take a ride on a one-third scale replica of the C.P. Huntington S.P. train built in 1863 at The Beavers Bend Depot & Stables, located in Area E. Run through the Wahoo Hill and the tunnel at Beavers Bend in the way your Great Grandparents might have. If you have time, stop by the stables for a trail ride through the park.

History Revisited

Celebrate local history at the Forest Heritage Center, where you can explore the history of Oklahoma forestry, including showcases in art such as woodworking & chainsaw carvings, paintings, sculpture, a 100 year old log cabin from the Kiamichi Mountains, memorials to the brave wildland firefighters and more. Visitors will also see dioramas of the prehistoric forest, Caddo Indians, Paper making in the South, 1940s Lumbering & Forest Appreciation.
